I was heartbroken when I saw the news of Kirsten's passing. She was a classmate of mine in the LPN program, a colleague for a time at the Eye clinic and a beloved friend. Her gentle spirit, her motherly nature and calming presence made her a great nurse. A few years back my husband was coming home from Towner in a horrible spring storm and I called Kirsten to see if he could stop at her home for awhile as the roads were impassable. In typical Kirsten style, her and Jerry graciously welcomed my husband into their home. Her kindness will never be forgotten. Fly high Kirsten-you are finally home in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. My sincerest sympathies to the entire Bratvold family.

I think of joy when I think of Kirsten. Kirsten’s expression of joy was expressed during all the christenings, confirmations, graduation celebrations, weddings, holiday gatherings, backyard cookouts, and recognition ceremonies for the Minot Aunties, and chauffeuring Adelaide. I think about how much Kirsten loved learning and attending Nursing school. During the best of times there was a glow of joy in her face, smile and I always thought she was a very pretty looking woman. I guess in the greater scheme of things my being part of the extended Johnson-Monicken-Bratvold family, I will remember Kirsten as a sister I am also losing.
To all, especially you children, husband, sisters and brothers, I regrettably express my sympathy and offer my condolences. This loss for you and the Ray community makes me feel great grief and sadness. You are in my heart.
Love you all,
Sue Kattas

One of my fondest memories is from Kristen’s sister-in-law Angee (my sister) who so admired Kristen’s parenting ideas. While picking up toys that had lost the kid’s interest, Angee declared “I’m going to do what Kristen does” and she relayed a story of Kristen picking up toys and hiding them away only to present them later. The kids were delighted and treated the toys like they were new.
Making things special was and seeing a way to make things new was always fun with Kristen. All my love to the family. I know Kristen loved you all and she will be so missed. Love, Deb Monicken

I was so surprised when I saw Kirsten's writeup in the paper ~ all the memories came flooding back of Farmers Union Camps and time spent at your house in Ray when my dad was on the NW Mutual Aid telephone board and your dad was manager. I'm sure I have more than just a few pictures in my photo albums from those days.
My prayers for peace are with your family as you go through the days ahead.

I am so sorry for your loss! I met Kirsten at the Tioga Hospital almost 37 years ago; January 13th to be exact. I was in labor with my daughter LeAnn expecting her to be the New Years Baby for 1983 and here comes Kirsten! She definitely was in labor. We were in the same room and hours before my daughter was born here comes Lindsey robbing me of having the 1st baby of the new year! Over the years we would see each other at either the grocery store or drug store and we would recount our hospital stay! My sympathy in the loss of your wife and mother and grandmother! She was a beautiful lady and I will always have that memory with her! May God be with you and comfort you at this time!
