My deepest sympathies to the family of Vern Neff!
We have lost one of the most competent & understanding attorneys of the Bar! He was also a great community leader and a strong member of the Republican Party.
May his soul rest with the Lord today.

I always enjoyed visiting with Vern. He had great insight about legal issues and foresaw the controversy coming on Lake Sakakawea OHWM minerals. God Bless him and his family.

Juanita, Barbara, Donna and Charles, on behalf of Heritage Foundation for Germans from Russia, please accept condolences on the passing of a great man. During the years I lived in Williston, he was a friend and mentor. The greatest compliment I can give is he was a friend. His service on the Board of Directors of HFGR was inestimable. Descendants of Germans from Russia are deeply and gratefully indebted to his commitment to the preservation of the story of our common ancestors. May his Creator give him peace, joy and a share in His glory. With kind regards, Ted J. Becker, President HFGR

I was sorry to hear that Vern passed away. I am the daughter of Lydia & Reuben Bettger. As a family we did not see the Neff family much. May the Lord be close to the family during this time of loss.

Dear Neff Family -

It’s with particular sadness that I remember Vern today. Not sadness so much as longing for times gone by. Times of community, honor, civility. Vern was a champion of them all.

I remember fondly his inviting us Key boys for a little ride out to Forts Buford and Union one Summer to show us a bit of prairie life history. Then there’s the time he and Juanita invited our huge Key clan to the house just after Christmas where one daughter was over-the-moon smitten for her newly-prized Beatles albums — every one that existed that mid-60s Winter. But one of my most special memories involved the gift of an old Wurlitzer.

It seems there were unknown communications between emissaries of the Keys and Neffs as I faced the dilemma of getting a bass amp for my burgeoning passion for rock and roll. Out of the blue, my brother, Mike, and I found ourselves over at Vern’s garage staring longingly at his gleaming example of WWll era technology — a jukebox. Vern explained how it ‘just won’t fit down my stairs’ as he offered it to us.

We couldn’t believe our luck!

My brother went to work, and I must confess, soon had Vern’s collectible piece of history strewn in pieces on our basement floor. Shortly, he had it stitched together in a Frankenteinian fashion, camouflaged enough to fool everyone, into a bass amp which I used for Several early band gigs.

As I read Vern’s lifetime accomplishments, I was stricken with the pride you Neff Family Members must feel at having been loved by such a good man. I can scarcely count the memberships and committees. I want to add one more item to his list, one tiny asterisk to a life well-lived — Philanthropist To The Arts,

Thank you, my friend.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Vern.

My sincere sympathies to the family. I worked for Vern for quite a few years and thoroughly enjoyed it. He was a great employer. He used to keep a bag of little snickers bars in his desk drawer and would toss me one every once in awhile saying in a hundred years it will never matter if you ate more calories than you should! He will be missed.
