Jim is one of a kind. In high school, he was the class clown of 1979. He had amazing musical talent on the drums, but his calling was radio where he became a DJ at KTGO when he was a sophomore or junior. He had an amazing voice and carried that with him into his long and successful radio career. I didn't see Jim much in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. We reconnected in 2019 at our 40th reunion. The Jim of 2019 was not the Jim I remember in 1979. He was much more settled and had the most giving and kind spirit. He was no longer the class clown, but much more than that. Even before his cancer diagnosis, he was the most generous person with his kind words. When he spoke to you, he made you feel like you were the most important person in the world to him. Jim came to my sister's funeral last year and grieved and gave of himself like he was a member of the family. Something tells me he knew his opportunities for connecting with people were limited. The many battles he waged against his illnesses proved he was a true warrior. I will miss you Jim and am so proud to have called you my friend! See you on the other side buddy!

Jim was a wonderful and admired classmate. I can still remember his graduation speech – inspiring and true to Jim’s keen sense of humor (he capped it off by lifting up his gown to reveal he wasn’t wearing socks). Another quick story, when Jim was a DJ in high school, he invited a few of us up to the KTGO broadcasting room where he ditched the rigid country music play list for rock and roll songs (we thought the radio tower would come crashing down - ha!). May God give Jim a good bed in heaven and bring comfort to his family.

We had so much fun at the radio station, I think Gabby was the manager and would have a heart attack if he saw what Jim was doing. Uncontrollable laughter for hours. Thanks for the memories!

Such a huge loss for so many, especially Tioga. He fought a great battle and was looking forward to meeting up with friends and family for a "thank you and final goodbye". He was phenomenal and the most interesting man to those of us who never got the chance to meet him personally. But I listened to his show...... God Bless him, his family and I know his mother met him with open arms.... what wonderful family the Prather's are. I adored his mom.... he was just as sweet as she.

I had the privilege to meet Jim while we were both staying at the Hope Lodge in Rochester, MN. Through our numerous in-depth late evening conversations, it soon became apparent he was one of strongest and finest men I had ever met. He quickly became a friend I truly admired for so many reasons. I never had the opportunity to meet her but he often spoke of his most wonderful wife whom he loved so very much. I send prayers to Jim’s entire family for strength and comfort at this most difficult time. RIP Jim …. my dear friend.
