Some losses are harder to take… this is one for me. I had the pleasure of playing softball alongside Gene for the better part of 4 decades. Gene’s competitiveness was never questioned. He enjoyed winning with humility and losses (there were few) with quiet resolve….resolve to win next time. Off the field, his personality threw in great amounts of friendship, honesty, humor, and a great amount of love for his family. I will miss my friend, however, the memories are many, and I can recall them at a moments notice, and put everything into slow motion. Geno, you were the best of us!

Gene and I graduated together. Although we didn't run around together, Gene was always a good friend. He had a genuine way of conducting himself that always made people feel comfortable. Peace be with you, Gene.

Dear Rachel and Family,

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. Though I only met him a couple of times when he was visiting you, I was touched by his warmth and kindness. It was evident how deeply he loved you and your family. Please know that my thoughts are with you during this difficult time. If there's anything you need, I'm here for you.

I was looking for Marg Clark’s Obituary because of UNDs Fighting Sioux play by play guy Jack Michaels Mother’s passing and sadly saw Gene’s passing. Gene played Basketball with my 5 years older brother Clair Moe a 1966 all-state player like Gene under the famous coach Marv Skar. I go to many high school Basketball games here in GF with my good friend David Diseth to this day. David I and other friends started to GF Central’s Basketball games about 1963. Just a few months ago we went a game, and we always reminisce about those old Central teams. David always talks about how good Gene was and what a great shooting range he had, and I agree. When Gene would come back to GF to visit, he would go to the YMCA to play noon ball. I’d play to. Gene could flat out play.

I worked for the BNSF railroad on the Switch Crew and we would service the North Dakota Mill and Elevator with rail cars. I would get instructions from Gene’s father Florian on what rail cars he wanted that day. My brother Clair also worked at the Mill. Gene’s brother Brad also a good Bball player worked at the Mill as you know. Saw the GF Storbakken’s all the time.

After Florian retired I’d see him and Helen going for coffee at Hardee’s. I believe daughter Marlene worked there. They always said hello.

I can relate to Gene where you never get the next game or next season out of your system. RIP Gene.
