On the evening of July 23, 2020 Perry drowned while fishing in his boat on Gartside Lake south of Sidney, MT. He was 67 years old.
Perry was born on July 11, 1953 in Sidney to Clair (Shorty) & Ellen (Gohde) Bartels.
He grew up in Sidney and graduated from Sidney High school in 1972, he then joined the army right after graduation and was stationed in Germany. He loved to ride his bike and take in all the breathtaking views. After spending four years overseas he returned home. He remained in Sidney and welcomed his only child Josh Bartels in November of 1979. Perry was a man of many trades and worked various jobs to provide for his family such as driving truck, farm hand, and feed mill operator.
In December of 1988 he met Jo Ellen Goldsmith and they were married on January 1, 1992. They enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and most of all they enjoyed each other’s company.
At the time of his unfortunate accident he was retired. Perry enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, raising different animals and helping others when he could. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clair & Ellen Bartels, his step-mom Leone Bartels, sister & brother-in-law Charlene & David McIntyre Sr., nephew Danny McIntyre, his dog Cupcake and grand-dog Chopper.
Perry is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jo Ellen Bartels & his two dogs Kloe & Tuffy, Sidney, son & daughter-in-law Josh & Amanda Bartels, granddaughter’s Hope, Faith & Paisley , grand-dogs Nala & Tank, Sidney, Brother Larry (Ky) Bartels, Ronan, sisters Marlene (Mert) Bartels, Washington and Lorrie (Lynn) Turner, Texas, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors that were like family.
In honor of Perry, the family is asking that everyone attending to please wear blue as his favorite color was blue and he always had to have a blue t-shirt with a pocket and blue jeans.

Joan Josh Amanda and grandkids got to know Perry over the phone sure wish we would have been able to get that fishing trip In.
