DeVonna Marie Klimpel
April 2, 1961 - August 17, 2020

Place of Birth: Williston, North Dakota
Residence: Ryder, North Dakota
Age: 59

DeVonna M. Klimpel, 59, of Ryder, ND, passed away with her loving husband Russell by her side on Monday, August 17, 2020 at the Sanford Medical Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

She was born in Williston, North Dakota on April 2, 1961 to Roy and Marion. They lived in Tioga, ND for a short time before moving to the family farm north of Palermo. This is the home DeVonna would grow up in, she was her Dad’s brown eyed girl and her mom’s little doll.

DeVonna was a Palermo Bobcat and was very active in school, pep club, cheerleading, basketball, band, choir and the school newspaper.

After high school, DeVonna married Jack Severance and to this union three girls were born, Heather, Kristi and Jessica. Jack and DeVonna would later divorce.

DeVonna lived in Minot for several years where she met and married Dean Putney. He suddenly passed away.

She worked for Choice Hotels for 17 years.

DeVonna married Russell Klimpel and they lived in Minot, Makoti and Ryder, ND. They enjoyed their time together, ice fishing, making lefse and traveling. They traveled to California stopping at many cities to take in the sights and activities, staying along the beach in San Francisco seeing the lights of the City in Alcatraz and Fort Bragg. Strolling through the parks near Miranda, then onto the “Trees of Mystery” in Oregon. They traveled onto Crescent City in Brookings and then returned to San Francisco stopping at all their favorite places.

They traveled to MD Anderson in Houston, they spent time at the Houston Zoo, NASA Space Center, Galveston, St. Pablo Beach, saw ships in the Houston Harbor. In the spring of 2019, she took a trip to Texas with Heather, Kristi, Kendall and Kaley. Having a great time visiting family and seeing some of the sights!

Her hobbies included cross-stitiching, gardening, baking, making lefse and of course….. Caribou Coffee!

DeVonna’s greatest joys in life were being a wife, mother and grandmother, especially “Grandma”. She took a lot of pride in the grandchildren bragging about them and showing off pictures to everyone!

DeVonna is survived by her husband, Russell; children, Heather (Kent) Janz, Kristi (Brad Cline) Severance, Jessica (Mike Wills) Severance; step-children, Ben Klimpel, Jon (Jordan Ramage) Klimpel, Tabitha Klimpel; brother, LeRoy “Andy” Andersen; niece, Abi Vachal; grandchildren, Braden, Riley, Kendall, and Kaley Janz, Quincy Dixon, Landyn Cline, Tristan Severance, Tanner Severance, Trayden and McKenzie Bachmeier, Lillian Klimpel, Keagan Klimpel, Paislee and Cooper Klimpel, Noah, Desmand and Evan Klimpel; numerous cousins and their spouses; aunts and uncles.

She is preceded in death by her father, Roy Andersen; mother, Marion Davidson; grandparents; aunts and uncles.

DeVonna was thankful for all the love and support shown for her on this journey of life.

So sorry for your loss. I had Devonna in school in Palermo. I always remember her as being quiet and doing her work diligently. She was always very neatly dressed. She was the kind of student that every teacher enjoys. Blessed be her memory.
