Consuelo “Connie” Serna was born to Felipe and Raquel Sandoval in San Ysidro, New Mexico on February 14, 1930. Connie was the second born of 12 children. She met the love of her life in Grants, NM, Louie Serna who was her companion for 67 years. She had one daughter, Joanne Lapica who was the love of her life. Joanne was her parent’s caregiver for many years.

Connie is survived by daughter Joanne (Kevin) Lapica of Ross, ND, grandchildren Kristy Chamberlain of Albuquerque, NM, Tyrell (Tiffany) Thiessen of Stanley, ND, Brittany Thiessen of Albuquerque, NM, and Dalton Rodin of Marion, ND, great grandchildren Serena Serna of Dallas, TX, Sergeant Mariah Serna of Bismarck, ND, Chance Chamberlain of Grants, NM, Chloe, Auron, Celeste & Gwendolyn Hunter of Grants, NM, niece Cecile (Danny) Almanza whom they raised, Four siblings, Sisto (Pat) Sandoval of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Dolores (Eliseo) Gonzales of Camp Verde, AZ, Edward (Pamela) Sandoval of Denver, CO, Shirley Avila of Denver, CO.

Connie was preceded in death by, her husband Louie Serna, her parents Felipe and Raquel Sandoval, brothers and sisters, Valerio, Margaret, Gilbert, George, Sister Lydia, Eugene and Sister Mary Ann.

Connie had a huge hand in helping raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Connie loved attending Church and had such a great love for God.

Connie was a school teacher for many years and touched the lives of many Native American youth. Later she and Louie purchased and operated the Grants Laundromat, where they catered to the Native American communities that they loved so much. Connie touched the lives of everyone she met. Her beautiful smile, contagious laugh and kind heart will be greatly missed.

Today on Jan.17, 21 you had the pleasure of seeing our Lord. His gentle voice spoke to you and He reached out and held you in His loving hands and said ‘Come with me my child, let me take you hone.” Thank you my Lord, Jesus for allowing me to know Connie, whom I called my sister. My deepest condolences and prayer for the beautiful family she left behind. Joanne you are the love of your parents and your children their children are so love by both me and Aunt Pat.
