Mae Lorraine Vaage
September 26, 1926 - February 14, 2021

Place of Birth: Palermo, North Dakota
Residence: Stanley, North Dakota
Age: 94

Mae Lorraine Vaage, 94, of Stanley, ND, passed away suddenly, but peacefully, of natural causes, at Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, AZ on February 14, 2021.

She was born in Palermo, ND on September 26, 1926, to her parents Ingval and Christine Mahlum. She graduated from Palermo High School. After her graduation, Mae attended Minot State Teacher's College for two months, and in the fall, she began teaching all eight grades in a rural country school. She attended summer school and evening classes for many years until she received her Bachelor of Science Degree. Mae taught in various country schools and then taught in the Stanley elementary school for many years until she retired. Her teaching career spanned over 30 years and she took great pride in her work. She loved her students very much.

Mae married Donald Vaage and they have a son, Gary. Don and Mae lived in Stanley. They farmed and raised cattle in the Lostwood area. They enjoyed square dancing, rodeos, school activities and getting together with family and friends.

After Donald passed away in 1995, Mae spent winters in California and Arizona with her beloved sister Ilene, and brother-in-law Kerm Satterlee.

Mae kept very active her entire life. She loved to garden and cook. She loved music, good singing and dancing. She continued dancing into hers 80's and never wanted to stop. She also liked to play cards with family and her lady friends, that she enjoyed being with so much.

The people mentioned here, except for her son Gary who lives in Mesa, Arizona, precede Mae in death.

My mom, Carol Johnson, and I enjoyed visiting with Mae both in Arizona and Stanley. I also had the pleasure of having Mrs. Vaage as a 5th grade teacher. She was a very special lady and always so happy to see you! We will truly miss her.
