Bing was born on October 31, 1936, to John and Gladys (Wick) Crosby at the Brodhead House in Fairview, MT. His mother, Gladys died during child birth. Ernest and Wilma Poff helped take care of him at his young age and later they adopted him. Bing went to East Lone Butte School for 8 years and stayed in Albert Noah’s home and walked to school every day. He started high school at Sidney High School in 1952 and graduated in 1956. After graduation Bing attended Northern Montana College in Havre, MT. There he received a degree in Farm and Ranch Management. He moved back to the Girard Community and operated the Poff family farm and ranch. Bing was united in marriage to Evelyn Fink on June 29, 1958, in Culbertson, MT. To this union they had three children, Gary, Larry, and Vickie. Following the marriage, Bing continued farming and ranching with his family. He also started his own trucking company, Poff Trucking. He worked 28½ years for Richland County, 18 years as county commissioner and 10½ years for the Richland County Road Department. He also served two terms as a Montana State Representative. When Bing and his wife Evelyn retired they started working for Fulkerson-Stevenson Funeral Home. They worked there for over 14 years.
Bing was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 30 plus years as a Moose Lodge member, and was a life member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed traveling and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Bing passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022, surrounded by his family at the Sidney Health Center in Sidney, MT.
Surviving him are: his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Poff, Sidney, MT; his son, Larry Poff, Williston, ND; his daughter, Vickie (Toad) Barbot, Williston, ND; a brother, Dallas (Julie) Crosby; a sister, Marcia Johnson; Sister-in-law, Erma Carranza; three grandchildren, Tate (Katie) and Ty Barbot and Dalton Poff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, David and Gladys Crosby; his adoptive parents, Ernest and Wilma Poff; his mother and father-in-law, Emil and Rose Fink; his son, Gary Poff; brother, Bud Crosby; sister, Ursula Wick; brother-in-law, Don Johnson, and nephew, Carman Crosby.
