Place of Birth: Stanley, North Dakota

Ramona Locken, 80, of New Town, North Dakota was called home to the Lord on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at the Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Ramona was born on August 31, 1942 in Stanley, North Dakota to Ernest and Louise Johnson, and was the baby sister to Ervin and LaVerne. She attended grade school in Van Hook and Sanish, and graduated from New Town High School.
Ramona met the love of her life, Lyle Locken, and the couple were married for 62 years. Together they completed their family with the addition of four daughters, Paula, Lori, Brenda, and Shelley. She was Lyle’s right-hand wo-man, driving grain trucks, working the fields, and always had a hot meal ready, she never let anyone go hungry! While raising her family and helping on the family ranch Ramona also drove the New Town school bus for over 29 years. She also worked at Jack-n-Jill and cooked at the New Town Elementary school. It was during this time that Ramona met her most cherished and wonderful friends.

She loved her bowling nights and also made time for a big garden each year. Ramona had many hobbies, but her biggest enjoyment came from sewing. She made quilts for her children and all of her grandchildren. Ramona had a deep faith and loved her little Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Ramona will be sadly missed by her husband of 62 years, Lyle Locken; daughter, Paula (Brian) Horob, Lori (Tim) Johnson, and Brenda (Craig) Fisketjon; brother, Ervin (Leone) Johnson; her beloved grandchildren, Kyle (Bobbi) Johnson, Chris (Brooke) Johnson, Brittney (Billy) Campbell, Coltin (Sheena) Horob, Miranda (Daniel) Schmitt, Shadd (Tess) Fredericks, Shauna (Jason) Schaffer, Shanyce (DK) Pienaar, Tate LaPierre, Luke Uran, and Caleb Uran; 22 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; two special nieces, Sharon and Audrey; brother-in-law’s & sister-in-law’s.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beautiful daughter, Shelley; her brother, LaVerne Johnson; and her step-father, Howard McKay.

Lyle and Family,

I’m saddened to hear of Ramona’s passing.

From our first grade together in Van Hook, in Mrs Keeney’s class, to our meeting at Bethel Church in 2013 at Bruce’s funeral, she always had a smile, a hug and a ‘how are you’. She led an exemplary life in the New Town community and especially in your close knit Crane Creek neighborhood.

RIP good and faithful servant.

My best to you Lyle, and all of your extended family.
