Place of Birth: Sidney, MT

Age: 75

Lynn “Butch” Peterson peacefully passed away on Friday July 14, 2023 at his home in Sidney, MT.

Lynn B Peterson was born on April 26, 1948. Lynn “Butch” was the first-born son of Otto “Swede” and Anita Peterson. He was born and raised in Sidney, MT until 1960, when the family moved to Missoula. Where he graduated from Sentinel High School in 1966. That year he joined the Army and served one year in Germany in training, then he was sent to Vietnam. Where he received a Commendation Medal for his work as a Fire Direction Specialist and Cannoneer in the artillery division.

In 1970, he returned to the Sidney area where he was employed as a surveyor, also attending Dawson Community College earning an associate degree in Land Surveying Technology in 1980. He worked for Dick Guenzi Surveys and L C Hanson Co. in Glendive MT, Western Energy in Colstrip, and the ND DOT. He always performed above and beyond regardless of the challenge of the job or extreme conditions of the weather.

He married Mary Jane Nemec in August of 1971 and to this union a daughter was born Jessica Ann Peterson Kwasney in 1972. She was a great blessing in his life. Mary and Butch divorced shortly after.

“Butch” was known for his love of hunting and fishing in the great outdoors. Spending time with his grandchildren whenever he could. He had a great interest in all manner of machinery and a fascination with explosive devices. It didn’t matter the size or magnitude from burn piles, fireworks, and firearms.

A loyal and generous friend, he lent a helping hand wherever needed. He provided company and meals as a giving friend. His ensuing acts of kindness spoke volumes about his generous heart. “Butch” will be deeply missed by those whose lives he enriched.

Butch is survived by his daughter Jessica (Chris) Kwasney; sister Georgia Hensley; grandchildren Brandon Peterson, Brett (Taylor) Eissinger, Mariah Kwasney, and Blake Kwasney; great-granddaughter Zacklynn Rose; great-grandson who will be arriving in December 2023; nieces Daena Hensley and Leigh (Corey) Seesz; uncle Bud Peterson; aunts Virgiana Dardis and Deloris Peterson; and grandnephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his brother Scott A Peterson; father Otto A Peterson; mother Anita Peterson Moran; and stepfather Harold Moran.
