Clyde Petty, 66 of Williston, ND passed away Monday, December 16, 2024 at the Sanford Health Medical Center in Bismarck, ND due to injuries sustained in a Motor Vehicle Accident.
Clyde was born in Salina, Kansas on January 28, 1958 to Glen and Ruby (Lind) Petty. During his youth he was raised in many cities traveling with family while Glen was in the Air Force.
In his youth, Clyde was very active in sports. He played baseball and basketball. As he was playing alumni softball, he earned the nickname “Cleeter” due to him being so fast.
After settling in Epping, ND he helped grandma and grandpa Lind with odd jobs around the café. From there, Elmer hired him to help with the Epping Museum. With that job, he began polishing rocks which he enjoyed doing.
After graduating from Epping High School, Clyde worked in the oil field for several years moving from floor hand (the worm) to driller and having his own crew. He travelled to many oilwell sites in and out of North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. In the 90’s, Clyde left the oilfield traveling to Phoenix, Az, for 2 – 3 years becoming a journeyman in his quest to becoming an electrician. He then returned to North Dakota and started working in the oilfield, eventually ending his career at Sun Well Services.
Clyde was blessed with 2 sons, Skyler and Nathan. He so enjoyed being a father and spending time with Skyler.
Nathan moved to Washington, so he didn’t get to spend time with him. Skyler, however, was spoiled by his father and they spent a lot of time together traveling to stock car races and watching them on TV. Clyde moved to the family farm after his retirement and spent his last years helping family and friends working on cars, motors, and whatever needed fixing. Clyde was an accomplished all-around handyman.
Clyde is survived by both sons, Skyler and Nathan; brother, Ivan (Kathryn); sisters, Vera and Ida; and many nieces and nephews, Jeff, Kristy, Serina, Ivan, Clinton, Raysha; Gail, the mother of his son, Skyler; step-daughter, Charnelle, (Kyle, Ashley Imsland) who he was honored to walk down the aisle for her wedding.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents, Glen and Ruby; sister, Kathy; brother-in-law, Vernon Weiler, great-niece, Celeste France.
Clyde will always be remembered for his laughter, good sense of humor, and his kind heart. He was definitely one of a kind and will be missed by many!
