James D. “JD” McMullin, 72 of Sidney passed away on Friday. July 18, 2025, at the Sidney Health Center, Sidney, MT.

James D. “JD” McMullin was born on December 18, 1952, to Floyd G, “Buster” and Laura Belle (Fletcher) McMullin, in Soda Springs, Idaho. Before he was 3 years old, he moved with his parents to Montana. JD attending Sidney Public Schools and graduating from Sidney Senior High School in 1971. Following graduation JD attended M.S.U. and earned his degree in Geology.

He was an ambitious young man, working with his dad in the building business, then rough necking in the oils patch, and worked his way thru college. JD was a Geologist for Tiger Mike Oil Company.

In 1982, JD married Janna Gunter in Colorado.

JD started driving a Semi truck in 1983 and eventually acquired a fleet of his own.

He had a great passion for hunting and guns. He and his dad built a gun shop on the back of the house, and they operated it for several years.

Surviving him are his brother, Don McMullin, Sidney, MT and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd G, “Buster” and Laura Belle (Fletcher) McMullin.

I was happy to have visited JD last summer in Sidney. Had a nice visit and caught up over the many years since graduation.

We grew up with JD as part of the herd of kids finding endless enjoyment in simple neighborhood games in Sidney. Our memories of elementary through high school years with JD in Sidney are treasured. He was a fine friend and a fine man.

I remember many adventures during high school riding our motorcycles and at MSU in his El Camino. Good times. He will be missed. My sympathies go out to Don.
