Virgil Eliason, 89, of Minot, ND (formally of Stanley, ND) passed away peacefully at Edgewood Memory Care in Minot, ND on Thursday, December 4th, 2025.

Virgil was born August 7, 1936, in Coulee, ND to Bert and Agnes (Rasmusson) Eliason. He grew up on the family homestead near Lostwood, ND with his five brothers and one sister.

He graduated from North Dakota Public Schools in 1950, later continuing his education at Hanson Mechanical Trade school in Fargo and graduating in 1964. He began his career at Rasch Motor Company in Stanley, ND. Later moving on to being a mechanic at Cenex Farmers Union Oil of Stanley for most of his career until retirement.

Virgil was married to Mary Rogstad on December 29, 1978. In this marriage, Virgil gained a wonderful son, James Cope. Later in this union, in 1985, Virgil and Mary were blessed with the birth of twins, Andy & Amber.

Virgil enjoyed many things in life. He enjoyed his career, conversations of classic cars, being in good company with friends and family, and always enjoyed humor and a good laugh. He treasured time spent camping and fishing, watching sports, and catching up on the latest news. The time he spent with his family and grandchildren is his most cherished.

He will always be remembered for his soft-spoken voice, his calm nature, well manners, sense of humor, and his ability to love everyone and enjoy the simple things in life.

During the past 9 years as a resident of Edgewood, Virgil was very well loved and cared for. His family has immense gratitude to the entire staff whom we all appreciate beyond measure.

Virgil is survived by his loving family; Mary Eliason; children, Andy (Stephanie) Eliason, Amber (Stephen) Mackay, James Cope; siblings, Don (Eldora) Eliason, Irvin Eliason, Murrey (Bonnie) Eliason; grandchildren, Cooper Eliason; Brynnlee, Josslynn, Zander & Ellyanna Mackay; Hunter, Taylyn, and Hudson Cope; plus several additional loved ones.

Virgil is proceeded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, Laverne, and sister Mildred; among other relatives.
