Kevin Guenther
November 3, 1949 - March 9, 2026

Place of Birth: Williston, ND
Residence: Grenora, North Dakota
Age: 76

Kevin Guenther, 76, of Grenora, North Dakota, passed away Monday, March 9, 2026 at CHI St. Alexius hospital in Willison.

Kevin was born November 3, 1949, in Williston, North Dakota, to Donald and Marian Guenther. He was the first of six children and spent his early years living on the same farmyard as his Uncle Vern, Aunt Jean, and cousins Linda, Jerry, and Loretta.

Kevin attended Hiawatha Elementary School just west of Dagmar, Montana. After his parents purchased the current Guenther Farm, Kevin attended Antelope Public School, where he participated in high school track and basketball. He graduated in 1968 and went on to attend Northern Montana College in Havre, Montana, for one year.

After returning to the Dagmar area, Kevin worked on the oil rigs for several years. During this time, he joined the Plentywood unit of the Montana National Guard, where he discovered his love for surveying.

Kevin worked in surveying for more than 20 years. His work took him to many parts of the United States, which is how he met Kay, his second wife. Kevin and Kay were married in Froid, Montana, where they made their home while Kevin raised sheep just west of town. This marriage blessed Kevin with his children, sons Zach and Nich, and daughter Amanda. Kevin and Kay later divorced.
Kevin married Lynn Jacobsen in 1973. Though their paths later took them in different directions, they eventually reunited, and Kevin became a loving father to Lynn’s son, Josh. Around this time, Kevin also began raising Red Angus cattle on the Grenora Farm. Following their divorce, Kevin continued to call the Grenora Farm home, where he raised cattle until his passing.

Kevin served as Grenora Township Supervisor and was an active member of the Grenora Saddle Club for many years, serving as president from 2018 until the club was disbanded in 2024.

From the time he could walk, Kevin was his grandfather’s shadow and spent much of his childhood with his greatest role model. He grew up working with many farm animals and riding horses, something he loved his entire life. Kevin also played baseball for the Dagmar Little League team, where he enjoyed playing third base—proudly calling it “the hot corner.”

Kevin enjoyed hunting waterfowl and upland birds and once harvested a whitetail deer using a 45-pound recurve bow. He had a deep love for geology, wildlife photography, and the outdoors. Above all, Kevin loved his four children, his twelve grandchildren, and of course, his dogs.

Kevin will be remembered for his integrity, his deep respect for nature, and the quiet way he cared for those around him.

He is survived by his children, Zach (Denell), Nich (Katie), Amanda Essen (Derek), and Josh Pitman; twelve grandchildren; and his siblings, Glen (Gail), Keith (Debbie), Randy, Donelle (Clint), and Russel (Julee).
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Marian Guenther.
